Google [GOOG] has announced that Gmail for mobile now works in 44 languages for users using the HTML5 version in the mobile browser on the iPhone and Android based smartphones.
The only language it was available in, right till yesterday, was US English. It is now available in the following languages…
Arabic, Bulgarian, Catalan, Chinese (Traditional and Simplified), Croatian, Czech, Danish, Dutch, English (UK and American), Estonian, Filipino, Finnish, French, German, Greek, Hebrew, Hindi, Hungarian, Icelandic, Indonesian, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Latvian, Lithuanian, Malay, Norwegian (Bokmal), Polish, Portuguese (for both Portugal and Brazil), Romanian, Russian, Serbian, Slovak, Slovenian, Spanish (for both Spain and South America), Swedish, Thai, Turkish, Ukranian, Urdu and Vietnamese.
The HTML5 interface is capable of detecting your language. All you need to do to access the new version is go to gmail.com in your mobile browser and you’ll be redirected to the correct language accordingly.
For those on the iPhone, you’ll need to be running iOS 2.2.1 and above which will be the majority of people reading this.
