The iPhone 4S has had a few problems since it launched a few weeks ago. These include a battery problem which sees users not being able to get through a day without having to plugin and recharge. The next problem is related to audio. We’ve reported on similar problems before which saw the wired headset becoming prone to some bad echos. This even newer problem seems to be with audio cutting out on outgoing calls.
This new problem was identified mid last week and a fix hasn’t made it in to the iOS 5.0.1 beta 1 or beta 2 updates. We suspect that Apple will pick up on the Apple thread though and perhaps add a fix in to beta 3 so that the issue can be resolved by the time of the iOS 5.0.1 release date.
The problem with outbound calls seems to be restricted to a group of people though although just how big that group is we don’t know at the moment.
Gizmodo points out that the problem could be related to the following: “Based on the accounts of those postings, the problem seems to revolve around some sort driver issue between the iOS software and the iPhone 4S hardware.”
Looking at the type of problem, it looks more likely to be software than a hardware issue. We expect Apple will try squeeze a fix in to iOS 5.0.1 beta 3 and if it makes it in to 5.0.1 then the problem should be resolved within the next couple of weeks when 5.0.1 goes final.
