Nokia [NOK] have announced the launch of three new phones. These are the Noika C3, Nokia C6 and the Nokia E5. Each of the new handsets features a QWERTY keyboard with two of them looking similar to Blackberry devices and the other having a QWERTY keyboard that slides out to the side in landscape mode.
“Our messaging device range is very successful,” said Anssi Vanjoki, Nokia’s Head of Markets. “Services that provide easy access to the world’s consumer and corporate email and instant messaging are really popular on our QWERTY smartphones such as the Nokia E71 and Nokia E63. People want the best messaging and social networking experience on an affordable device, whether it’s sending a simple text or instant message, an email, or a direct message from their Twitter account. The Nokia C3, Nokia C6 and Nokia E5 are made for just that.”
Nokia C3
The Nokia C3 is planned for a Q2 launch. It has a QWERTY keyboard on the front below the screen and is the first Series 40 device to have a QWERTY keyboard. It also brings social networks to the homescreen providing the ability to see what’s happening around the web. The phone works on GSM/EGSM networks at 850/900/1800 and 1900MHz. It weighs just 114 g. The battery has a capacity of 1320mAh and is good for keeping the phone on standby for about 20 days as well as providing 7 hours of talk time.
The screen on the Nokia C3 measures 2.4 inches and is in a QVGA resolution of 320×240 pixels displaying up to 262k colours. For storage it has 55MB of internal memory which can be expanded up to 8GB by microSD memory cards.
For connectivity it has Wirelss LAN at 802.11b/g as well as Bluetooth 2.1+EDR.
When launched it is expected to cost just 90 Euros before tax and subsidies making it a relatively cheap phone.
Nokia C6
The Nokia C6 runs the Symbian OS and has a 3.2 inch touchscreen with a keyboard that slides out to the side. This phone is designed to give a better internet experience. Feeds from Facebook can be found on the homepage and a whole bunch of social networking features are also built in. This phone is designed for people who like to stay connected while on the go.
Features on the Nokia C6 include HSDPA/WCDMA 850/900/1900/2100 and GSM/EDGE 850/900/1800/1900 for connectivity along with WiFi and Bluetooth. The OS is Symboan S60 5.0 and the phone weighs 150g. The 1200mAh battery is good for providing up to 16 days on standby and 7 hours of talk time on GSM networks and 5 hours on a 3G network.
The 3.2 inch screen is TFT and can display 16M colours. It has a resolution of 640×360 and is in a 16:9 widescreen aspect ratio.
Memory wise it has 200MB of internal memory and the microSD card slot accepts up to 16GB. When launched it will cost 220 Euros before tax and subsidies.
Nokia E5
The last of the phones announced today is the Nokia E5. The E5 connects to WCDMA and GSM networks as above and comes with a 2.4 inch QVGA screen (320×240) that can display 256K colours. The phone it’s self weighs 126g and has a battery that can power it for an impressive 29 days on standby along with 18 hours 30 minutes on GSM and 5h 30min on 3G networks for talk time.
250MB of internal memory is available and the microSD card slot accepts up to 32GB microSD cards.
The Nokia E5 is set to cost 180 Euros before tax and subsidies when launched in the 3rd quarter of this year.
