Nokia has confirmed that the Nokia N9 will not be arriving in the UK. The MeeGo based smartphone was first rumoured not to be arriving in the US and then confirmation came about the same happening in the UK.
Nokia spoke to Paid Content about the device not coming to the UK, quoted below:
“As an organisation Nokia takes a market by market approach to product rollout and each country decides which products to introduce from those available. These decisions are based on a local assessment of existing and upcoming products that make up Nokia’s product portfolio and are intended to provide the best local portfolio for the UK market. Although we are delighted with the very positive reception that the Nokia N9 has received, here in the UK there are no plans to offer the Nokia N9 at present.”
We don’t know what the assessment includes, but perhaps it could include pricing of the product vs expected demand and if those don’t match it passes on to another country. Also, it could indicate that a different version of the N9 will be launching in the UK. We also know that Nokia is preparing to roll out Windows Phone on its devices soon and perhaps Nokia prefer to focus on this over here rather than on another platform AKA Meego.
