The Photosimile 5000 is a 3D camera system built by Ortery that can capture photos of objects and create 360 degree representations of those objects. We first mentioned the Ortery Photosimile 5000 back in December last year although it has been in the making for almost two years… we now hear that it’s actually gone on sale costing $17,000.
The system works by placing an object on a turntable in the middle of a light box. A computer controls the rotation of the turntable and the position of the camera that slides along a track automatically. By capturing images from a number of angles you get a 360 degree representation of the object that can then be used on a webpage.
The bulbs used inside the small booth creates 6500K of illumination for the Canon DSLR that is used inside. 72 pictures are taken of each object and then created as either GIF or Flash Files to be used in presentations.
