Google [GOOG] has announced that the Nexus One Android 2.3 update will be arriving soon. In a tweet that Google sent out, it said that it would be here in the coming weeks.
When the Nexus S and Android 2.3 were first announced there was a bit of confusion in people thinking that the Android 2.3 update was being pushed out. It turns out that those reports were incorrect and that Nexus One owners were just getting a small interim update to fix a few bugs. [Read more…]
Yesterday, Staples announced that they were stopping selling the ViewSonic G Tablet due to what they called a “manufacturing defect”. A number of blogs, including ours, spread the news around.
This seems to have caught the attention of ViewSonic who have now issued a press release which doesn’t say there is a hardware defect, but instead simply says that an update is being pushed out over WiFi that will fix a few problems that customers have been seeing. [Read more…]
T-Mobile (US) is launching a MiFi solution sometime next year. The first of two MiFi devices is launching in March 2011 and has been codenamed “Lil Wayne” for reasons we do not know.
The image above shows a capture of some T-Mobile documentation that says Verizon is bundling a MiFi with the iPad and that T-Mobile will be doing the same with a MiFi capable of 4G speeds. [Read more…]
Swype has been available for a number of months for Android smartphones although it was restricted to which devices could run it.
As of today, Swype for Android is now available to download and allows anyone with “almost” any Android smartphone install the virtual keyboard. [Read more…]
NavFree for the iPhone has launched in the US. The NavFree app is free, as the name suggests, and brings navigation to the iPhone and iPad.
Features include…

TomTom has released version 1.6 for the iPhone. The new 1.6 version of TomTom brings map sharing to the iPhone.
What the Map Sharing feature does is allow you to make modifications to your own maps. For example, a new restriction might be put in place that isn’t on the TomTom maps. What you do at this point is add the restriction in and next time you plan a route, that restriction is taken in to consideration. [Read more…]
The dual-screened Kno Tablet will be shipping today to those that got a pre-order in for it.
The tablet has two screens that each measure 14.1 inches each although there is a 14.1 inch single screen version also being made available.
Price wise, Kno expect students (who the tablet is targeted at), to pay up to $900 for the dual screen version. [Read more…]
The HTC Droid Incredible Android 2.3 update is arriving… unofficially. The update arrives thanks to the guys over at XDA Developers again, who managed to get a build of Android 2.3 Gingerbread working on the smartphone.
Since the initial launch of Android 2.3 for the Incredible on December 8, the team has managed to create three more versions with each of them ironing out the bugs to make it run that little bit better. [Read more…]
The Gmail Blog from Google [GOOG] has announced that it is extending the offer of free calls to the US and Canada throughout 2011.
When Google Voice was integrated in to Gmail back in August this year, the offer of free calls was originally planned to run till the end of this year.
In the spirit of holiday giving and to help people keep in touch in the new year, we’re extending free calling for all of 2011.
The Palm Pre 2 is now available on the Rogers network over in Canada. The launch of the Pre 2 on Rogers was no real surprise as reports recently have been showing the Pre 2 dummy boxes in various stores around Canada.
As for the price, the Pre 2 costs $99.99 CAD but comes with a lengthy 3 year contract. If you are willing to pay $349.99 then you can get a two year contract and for those paying $399.99, you’ll get either a 1 year or a month-to-month contract depending on how much per month you are willing to pay. Just a few weeks ago, a guy called Oliver Kreylos managed to get the Microsoft Kinect to track him and put him in a virtual setup where a live video feed could be manipulated to rotate around himself. The effect was amazing to watch. The downside is that anything past what the Kinect could see was just left blank. To get around this, Krelos connected two Kinects together to fill in some gaps that were created when rotating around a person.
Kreylos is back again and this time is using a couple of Kinects to create a virtual 3D video conferencing system. The system is capable of transmitting the data from the two Kinect cameras over a WAN and lets the person receiving the video call manipulate the virtual scenery by rotating around the person talking. Samsung has confirmed that it plans to support the Bada OS in the future in a big way. Right now, Bada is at version 1.2. Sometime next year the operating system will jump to version 2.0 and with that, a number of new features will be introduced.
Features we can expect in Bada 2.0 include multitasking, a new SDK, NFC (near field communications), revenue model support (operator billing and ads) as well as a number of other new features. [Read more…]
