Nokia has announced the Nokia X2-01 today. The new smartphone has a QWERTY keyboard below the screen and has a 2.4 inch QVGA display.
The X2-01 keyboard has been designed for those that use a lot of email and text messages and allows a more tactile way to type when compared to a virtual keyboard. Facebook has been integrated in to the X2-01 with friends status’ showing up on the home page of the device. [Read more…]
Dell Inspiron Duo Tablet – Launching December for $549

Dell is about to sell the Inspiron Duo Tablet. The launch date will be the first week of December and when launched, it will have a price tag of $549.99.
The tablet is unique in that its a laptop with a revolving screen that allows you to work with the device as a tablet or netbook. Unlike most other tablet/netbook devices, this has two hinges and allows the screen to rotate within the frame rather than on a single rotating hinge point.
iPad 2 Could Get Carbon Fiber Back

Trademark details indicate that Apple [AAPL] could be using Carbon Fiber for the back cover of the iPad 2. What this would do is make the iPad 2 both strong and lighter than the original iPad.

iPad 2 Parts Suppliers Revealed

Digitimes has revealed the initial parts suppliers for the up coming iPad 2 that is expected to launch early next year.
The companies involved at the moment include Ibiden, Tripod Technology and TTM who are responsible for the PCBs. More companies are expected to join around February time when the iPad 2 will start being mass produced ready for a launch a month or two later. [Read more…]
Lightweight Version of Angry Birds Hitting Android

Rovio has announced that a new version of Angry Birds will be launching for Android smartphones. This particular version will be a light weight version that can run on low powered devices such as the older T-Mobile G1.
“We are aware that a number of our fans have had trouble running the game on their devices. For example, some older and lower performance Android devices are experiencing severe performance issues. We are preparing a new solution for the next update … This does not mean lighter gameplay or a lesser amount of levels, but a game experience optimized for devices with less processing power.” Rovio Mobile
LEGO 3D Scanner Used to Create LDraw Parts

By combining some Lego parts and a computer, one particular guy has managed to create a system that can scan objects in 3D. These 3D objects can then be exported to use in the LDraw software to be used as parts in Lego projects.

Magellan Roadmate for iPhone Gets Updated

Magellan has update its iPhone satnav software to make it compatible with iOS 4 and above. New features include multitasking as well as live traffic updates.
By adding multitasking to the satnav software, the iPhone is now capable of running navigation in the background and directing you by voice if required. If the phone rings, the app just jumps to the background and continues to navigate you while you speak (hands free of course). [Read more…]
HTC Merge Spotted on Verizon Website – Quickly Remove

Yesterday, the Verizon [VZ] website briefly uploaded details of the HTC Merge. Android Central managed to grab a few screenshots just before Verizon took down the details.

Kinect Hacked to Create Digital Puppet

The Kinect from Microsoft is proving to be quite a cool hackable toy. The latest hack sees Emily Gobeille and Theo Watson creating a digital puppet.
The system works by capturing movement of a persons arm and hand and then interprets that in to puppet movement which is then projected on to a wall. When a hand is opened the pupped makes noises. [Read more…]

Apple [AAPL] has released another version of iOS. This time iOS 4.2.1 GM can be found in the developers control panel at Apple and is ready for developers to download and test now.

GSMA Propose Embedded SIM Cards for 2012

The GSM Association is looking in to the idea of using embedded SIM cards in mobile phones beginning sometime in 2012. The new embedded SIM cards will be capable of being activated by software which means that one SIM card can be activated on any GSM network when the phone is purchased.
This follows on from what Apple [AAPL] is believed to be doing in their collaboration with Gemalto. Although the idea is good in some ways, ie, you don’t need to worry about a SIM card, it potentially will lead to a whole host of problems for users. [Read more…]
