iOS Browser Share Ends up at 52% in 2011

Just over half of all mobile devices browsing the web were created by Apple. Numbers are showing that at the end of 2011, Apple had a 52.1 percent share of mobile browser traffic.

Small Settings Tweak on Galaxy Nexus Could Fix Lag on Some Apps

RedmondPie is reporting that some users are seeing issues with some apps running a little slow on the Galaxy Nexus. Of course, the Galaxy Nexus doesn’t lack the power as it’s a relatively new device running the latest operating system from Google, Ice Cream Sandwich or Android 4.0. Rather than being a hardware issue, it seems that some of the older apps just aren’t quite optimised for Ice Cream Sandwich. Luckily there’s a small work around which should help speed things up a little.

Ask Ziggy Voice Control for Windows Phone Launches

Windows Phone users have another option for voice control today thanks to an app called Ask Ziggy. The new app was created by Shai Leib and can be seen in some ways as being similar to Apple Siri and the Android equivalent. The app lets users use voice to ask the phone questions such as directions, flight status, stock prices, weather as well as calculations and questions.

1.2 Billion iOS and Android Apps Downloaded Last Week of 2011

Over the last week of 2011 (December 25 to December 31), there were more downloads made than ever before by iOS and Android users. The stats company Flurry has reported that 1.2 billion apps were downloaded through that week.

Retrode 2 Lets you Play SNES and Genesis Games on a PC

The Retrode 2 is a device that lets you connect up your old SNES and Genesis games to a PC and play them. What makes this device great is that it is capable of reading the data from the cartridges and then loading it up in an emulator on the PC. As well as being able to read the games it also has a couple of ports for each console allowing you to connect up 2 SNES and 2 Genesis controllers. The controller information is then passed through the Retrode 2 on to the emulator.

Android App Makes Internet Tethering Undetectable

A new Android app has been launched that aims to hide tethering from carriers. The reason some users might want to do this is so that they can pay for the data allowance on their mobile plan and then use that allowance to either browse on a mobile device or browse on a laptop tethered to the device. Recently, carriers have decided to charge for tethering which means an additional cost to the user, even if they stay within their plan.

Sony Tablet S Drops to $400 for 16GB Model

The Sony Tablet S has dropped in price to $400 for the 16GB model. The 32GB model is now priced at $499.99. Just a few weeks ago, Sony had dropped the price of the Tablet S by $50 over the Christmas period. This new price drops knocks another $50 off that Christmas price.

Samsung Galaxy S II Leaked Ice Cream Sandwich Begins Rolling Out (Unofficial)

The Samsung Galaxy S II is now beginning to get the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich update although the update isn’t official. This particular update comes from SamMobile who managed to get hold of an alpha build of Ice Cream Sandwich. As it’s Alpha, it’s a little buggy still although you do get a sense of what ICS will run and look like on the SGS2.

PS Vita Plays Sega Megadrive/Genesis Games

The Sony PlayStation Vita launched less than a month ago and already, someone has managed to get a Sega Megadrive/Genesis game running on it. Rather than the game being run on an emulator direct, the actual game is running on an emulator within an emulator… meaning that the game is running on the Genesis emulator which runs within the Vita PSP emulator.

60beat has launched a new games controller for iOS devices. The controller is called GamePad and is unique in that it uses the headphone port of any iOS device to function. As it uses a 3.5mm jack, all power is provided by the iPhone, iPad or iPod touch meaning that no charging/batteries are needed.

Fake Siri App for Android Pulled from Market

Last week, an app for Android was released called Siri for Android. The app was fake although in order to try convince people to download it, the developer decided to call himself “Official App” and also use the official Siri icon as the Android version icon. When loading up the app is simply took users to Google Voice Actions.
