White iPhone 4 Removed from the Apple Database

It’s been about 9 months since Apple announced the White iPhone 4. We have still not seen it launch though and it appears now that Apple might not be launching this device.

The reason we think it might not be launched is that Apple updated the Apple Store yesterday and when it came back up, the only thing changed was the iPhone 4 (in white) being taken off the site. [Read more…]

Apple Patent Reveals a Hybrid DisplayPort/USB 3.0 Connector

Apple has won a patent for a new hybrid 30-pin/USB 3.0 connector that could be used for high-speed transfer to and from an iPhone. The connector looks similar to a regular Apple 30-pin connector, but rather than connecting to just a USB 2.0 port, the new one will be capable of connecting to USB 3.0. We also hear that this could include Thunderbolt for high speed data transfers.

Yet this latest hybrid connector looks like a winner and one that we might see come to market later this year in handhelds or in 2012 when Intel Macs debut with USB 3.0. But let’s be honest here: Wouldn’t we all like to see this debut on the iPhone 5? Hmm, I think that I’m hearing a thunderous yes on that question.

Verizon iPhone 4 Drops Less Calls than AT&T Version

AT&T and Apple has faced a bit of criticism over the years about the iPhone and it’s dropped call rate. It has never been completely clear as to where the fault is with some blaming one or the other.

Some data was collected in March that reveals the iPhone 4 on Verizon actually drops calls a lot less than the AT&T version. Numbers show that from those surveyed, 4.8% on AT&T had dropped calls, while only 1.8% on Verizon had experienced drop calls. [Read more…]

Android Music Player 3.0 Embedded in to Test Android Market

The test version of the Android Market somehow was installed on a writers phone over at Tech from 10 and along with that, access to the Android Music Player 3.0. It isn’t known what the real method for getting the test market on to the said device was (a Galaxy S), other than perhaps it being in developer mode.

The actual market looks similar to the regular publicly available version other than a few changes. Most notable is the missing options to download paid apps. Other than that, it’s relatively the same. It does have the one addition though, which we have already mentioned. This is the Music Player 3.0. [Read more…]

Developers Say Android Fragmentation is a Problem

In a recent survey, developers have hinted that developing for Android can be a bit of a problem. The reason for this is due to the fragmentation of the OS and the Android Market.

The main key points from the survey mention that device fragmentation was a huge (or meaningful) problem for 56% of developers. This number has increased over the last few months as well. Also, the break up of various Android app stores such as the official Android Market and the Amazon App Store is also another concern for developers. It seems like a good percentage want a single experience, just like the Apple App Store provides. [Read more…]
