Panasonic announced today the arrival of the Panasonic LUMIX G2 and the LUMIX G10 cameras which will be made available in May 2010.
The G2 and G10 are both Micro Four Thirds cameras with the G2 costing $799.95 and the G10 costing $599.95. Both cameras were first officially announced back in early March although at that time no release dates or pricing were provided with information simply saying that details would be announced 30 days before launch… so 30 days from now we should see these cameras for sale.
Back to the cameras, the Panasonic LUMIX G2 claims to be the worlds first digital interchangeable lens system camera with a movable LCD touchscreen. The G2 is a step-up from the G1. By having a movable touchscreen it allows users to easily view their subject from difficult angles as well as use the touchscreen features to point and focus by touch. The screen measures 3 inches and displays 460k dots. The camera is capable of capturing 720p high definition video.
As well as being used for capturing subjects and autofocusing them by touching the screen, the display also works well for changing settings and browsing through photos already stored on the camera by using slide gestures.
The Panasonic LUMIX G10 is described as being an affordable entry-level camera. It claims to be the worlds lightest digital interchangeable lens camera with a viewfinder. Like the G2, the G10 is also capable of capturing video in 720p HD resolutions with images stored in a variety of formats.
Both the LUMIX G2 and LUMIX G10 will come equipped with the LUMIX G VARIO 14-42mm/F3.5-5.6 ASPH/MEGA O.I.S. lens. The new lens offers a versatile zoom range of 14-42mm (35mm camera equivalent: 28-84mm), making it suitable for shooting a wide-range of scenes, from dynamic landscape to portrait. Furthermore, both models are compatible with all LUMIX G-Series DSL Micro Four Thirds system lenses, allowing users even higher levels of performance in a digital interchangeable lens camera. In addition to LUMIX G lenses, the LUMIX DMC-G10 and LUMIX DMC-G2 DSL Micro Four Thirds digital cameras can use any interchangeable lens that complies with the Four Thirds standard via an optional mount adaptor DMW-MA1 and with the prestigious Leica M/R Lenses via DMW-MA2M or MA3R.
