A new smartphone from Samsung will soon be launched on the Verizon network in the US. The device is the Samsung Stratosphere which comes running the Google Android operating system, has a slide out QWERTY keyboard and has LTE connectivity.
Cisco has provided some of the networking features on this device which includes encryption, VPN and MDM. Due to these extra services the device is aimed more at the business users rather than regular user.
When it launches Verizon will be selling the Stratosphere for $149.99 which will be on a two year contract. The release date is October 13 (this Thursday).
Samsung has also confirmed that the Stratosphere falls under the Galaxy S class of smartphones making it quite powerful as well.
The Android operating system is 2.3 Gingerbread. The screen measures 4 inches and is a Super AMOLED. It has the ability to be used as a wireless hotspot providing connectivity up to LTE where available. The slideout QWERTY has five rows of keys.
Inside the Stratosphere is a 1GHz Cortex A8 Hummingbird processor. It has a couple of cameras with the one on the front capturing in 1.3 megapixels and the one on the back capturing at 5 megapixels.
The device will launch this Thursdau.
