SanDisk (NASDAQ: SNDK) have started shipping the worlds highest capacity microSDHC card that can store 32GB of data on it.
The microSDHC claims to be the first 32GB capacity card in this format that has shipped. SanDisk also iterate how much capacity 32GB actually is and compares it to 35 round-trips between San Francisco and New York if filled with music. That’s an impressive amount of data that can be stored.
The memory card is starting to ship today, comes with a 5 year warranty and has a suggested retail price of $199.99 which is lower than I expected for a card of this capacity. I also suspect when Amazon picks them up they will also drop a little further in price maybe to the $190 range.
The way SanDisk managed to squash so much storage capacity on to a small card is due to third-generation X3 (3-bit-per-cell) technology that allows more storage to be crammed in to a smaller space.
Before purchasing one of these cards it would be wise checking up on the device you are intending to use it on to ensure it is compatible as sometimes devices have a limit on what size memory card they can format and use.
