The Xacti CG9 is built by Sanyo and is their latest compact video camera. The camera is a little fatter then normal which was designed this way on purpose. The reason for it’s extra bulk is due to some research done on women and what type of camera they prefer. The surprise is that women prefer a bulkier camera because of a slim camera being difficult to hold and operate. The Xacti comes in 3 colours which are red, white and black and are very user friendly. This is a trait which Sanyo have been known for in the past and one that they want to retain also. If Sanyo get the price right, I can see this camera doing very well. The H.264 video codec is fairly standard and allows for good quality video recording at lower bit rates and thus, it takes up less storage space.
Technical Specs
As can be seen, this camera is entry level and should come in at a VERY good price. The original Xacti had a CCD sensor which has now been replaced with a CMOS sensor which will provide a less crispy, but still good quality video and image.
The Xacti CG9 will be released soon, but no prices are available just yet. We will post as we find out more details.
