Seagate has launched a new external desktop hard drive with a huge 3 Terabyte capacity. The drive is called the FreeAgent GoFlex and is the first drive of it’s kind to be capable of storing this amount of data.
The 3TB capacity of the FreeAgent GoFlex allows 120HD movies to be stored or 1500 video games, thousands of pictures and a lot of hours of music.
“Consumer capacity demands are quickly out-pacing the needs of business as people continue to collect high-definition videos, photos and music”
The GoFlex 3TB drive has a USB 2.0 that can be converted to a USB 3.0 or FireWire 800 port depending on the users home configuration. It is compatible with Windows and Mac OS X. The Mac OS X is compatible because of a supplied NTFS driver that can be installed.
It is estimated that household digital media storage needs will be 900GB by 2014. Having larger drives available allows for plenty of room at the moment, for data to be stored.
The GoFlex Desk external drive delivers unconstrained, high-capacity storage and automatic, continuous backup with software file encryption to help keep all data safe and secure. The standard USB 2.0 interface can be upgraded to USB 3.0 or FireWire® 800 by coupling the drive with the appropriate GoFlex¢ desktop adapter to increase file transfer performance by up to 10x for easier copying or sharing of files.
The 3TB GoFlex external drive costs $249.99 and is available direct at Seagate.com as well as other retailers.
