5.2GHz Processor Introduced by IBM

IBM has introduced a new microprocessor that is capable of being clocked at a hefty 5.2GHz. IBM claim it is the fastest CPU currently available although there are a number of overclockers who have managed to beat 5.2Ghz quite easily. One big difference between the IBM chip and overclocking other chips is that the IBM one doesn’t require extreme cooling.

The chip uses zEnterprise technology that was created from an investment of $1.5 billion in R&D at IBM.

If you’re into details, the z196 processor is a four-core chip that contains 1.4 billion transistors on a 512-square millimeter (mm) surface. It’s manufactured using IBM’s 45 nanometer (nm) SOI processor technology, and it makes use of IBM’s patented embedded DRAM (eDRAM) technology, which allows IBM to place dense DRAM caches, or components, on the same chips as high-speed microprocessors, resulting in improved performance.

It has been confirmed that the T-Mobile G2 will run Android 2.2 when it launches. Other details also reveal that the MSM7x30 CPU to be found inside will be clocked at 800MHz rather than 1GHz.

T-Mobile are still calling it the fastest smartphone experience in America although that could be in regards to it’s fast HSPA+ network connectivity.

It could still run very fast though. If HTC opt for cutting out a lot of junk from the OS, commonly known as bloatware, it could gain an advantage over other smartphones. [Read more…]

MoviePeg for iPad Launches

We originally wrote about the MoviePeg iPhone Stand back in March this year. The original was a single peg that attaches to the side of an iPhone to prop it up at a better angle for watching movies. It’s a simple, cheap and fantastic idea.

The iPad launched in April and a lot of people have been wondering if a MoviePeg iPad stand would be made available… the answer is yes, and it’s available now.

The MoviePeg iPad stand is similar to the iPhone version, but because of the iPad being larger, you need to use two MoviePegs instead. When ordering the MoviePeg for iPad you actually get two that can snap together to keep them safe whilst travelling around. [Read more…]
