This gold (silver also available) clock is shaped like a set of drums. Inside the drums you will find a quartz clock embedded which is accurate to about +- 7 seconds per year. The drum set is made of metal and is gold or silver plated. Size: dia = 21mm, drum size is L50 x W28 x H75 mm.

For just a few minutes a day this clock is shaped just like a cube. However, as time moves onwards it starts to change shape as the various sections rotate around an axis. When it gets around to 12 again the clock is cube shaped.
The largest triangle is for displaying hours while the medium is for minutes and the small triangle on the edge represents seconds. The cube clock costs just shy of $12 from Chinavasion.

The Carpet Alarm clock is designed to force you out of bed to switch it off. When beeping away it requires that you place both feet on it and stand up. I am not too convinced though and think the only way to get up in the morning is to have an ejector bed to launch you out of the bed.

A lot of retro type gear is being re created in a more modern way. However, this retro flip down clock retains most of it’s retro-ness by by using actual flip down mechanism. This 18th century device is an incredible piece of kit. When looking at the side you see a model of inner planets. When looking from above that changes and you see a complex clockwork mechanism.
For those of you who are not sure what an Orrery is… it is a mechanical model built to show the alignment of planets and moons. In the centre of the Orrery you tend to find the Sun which then has arms which rotate mechanically around it on arms.

The Life Clock is a unique idea which has little LCD people living inside it. It works as an alarm clock and from what the translation says, the people living inside turn out how you are. If you are sloppy and get up late then they will turn that way. If you get right out of bed then they will become more affluent. It costs just $31 from Amazon in Japan.

Vice Versa is a clock which only has hands. It is designed by Yiran Qian from China and was a shortlisted entry for the brightLED competition. As can be seen, the hands rotate around an axis like any other clock, but the numbers are built from LED’s on the end of the hands which gives them the appearance of being stationary as the hands move around. However, the clock is currently concept although it would be cool if it was actually built.

This old 8-bit NES cartridge has been converted in to a wall clock. The idea is quite cool and has brass hands attached to a quartz motor which is then put inside the old Nintendo NES game. It costs $18 and mounts on to a recycled acrylic stand. I like this one!!!
