Microsoft XBox 360 Slim Spotted

Adverts for a new XBox 360 console appeared briefly on a number of sites this weekend. The ads revealed that Microsoft [MSFT] could be introducing the Microsoft XBox 360 slim sometime soon.

Update: Google Translate indicates the text in the image says… “alive today ready for the future of tomorrow Technology”.

The advert also revealed Kinect which is the new name for the XBox 360 Project Natal (more information on that shortly). What we also see in the Microsoft advert is a slimmer XBox 360 along with details that a 250GB hard drive can be found inside. WiFi is also included from what we understand in the advert.

Nothing official has been announced by Microsoft and it appears that the ads showing might have been running a little earlier, or that they “might” not be real. We doubt the latter as it would be a pointless task for someone to buy up a load of adspace for a few hours only to pull the ads. [Read more…]

Ballistic Cyclone Watch Review

We recently received a Ballistic Cyclone watch to review from the guys over at Watches Shop to see if it was any good and what it’s all about.

In the email asking if we would do the review a comment was made saying… “Ballistic watches are unlike any other wrist watch available on the market – they are the strongest, toughest and most durable watches available in the world.”

The watch it’s self is built well and has a heavy feel to it. It is covered in gold plating and although not to my taste it still is done very well. On the right side of the watch, three buttons can be found. The top one is used to start the stop watch where a large red second hand ticks around when starting it. The same button also stops the stop watch. The bottom button is used to reset the second hand returning it back to zero. The middle button is used to set the time and has 3 positions that allow you to set the time and calibrate the second hand to zero after changing a battery. [Read more…]

LEGO Felt Tip 110 Printer Actually Works

Check out this cool printer. It is built of LEGO and uses a felt tip pen to print on standard paper.

The kit cannot be purchased in a standard kit, ie, it’s not LEGO mindstorms controlling the system. Instead the creator managed to design, build and code it all from scratch using analog motor electronics along with sensors and a printer driver. The LEGO printer connects up to a Mac using a USB interface.

When using the printer it looks to work like a standard printer on a Mac in that when you instruct a document to be printed, you can select the LEGO Felt Tip 110 printer from the drop down menu. [Read more…]

It is important to note here that the netbooks on show are just design references to show end users what is potentially possible. When companies do launch netbooks with the new processors inside you can expect to see 14 – 15mm thin netbooks running an Intel Canoe Lake processor along with a 10.1 inch screen and a 1280 x 1080 display and Windows 7. Sony Rollable Colour OLED Display

Sony has created an amazing looking rollable colour OLED display. The ultra thin screen measures 80μm in thickness and measures 4.1 inches diagonal.

The impressive part of the screen is that it can roll around a pen (demonstrated below in video) while the video is moving. Although the video isn’t of the highest quality, it certainly isn’t bad by any means and certainly shows where technology could be heading in the future.

The 80μm screen sits on a flexible 20μm thick substrate that has no rigid driver chips. This allows it to be as flexible as seen in the video. The screen can be rolled up on a 4mm radius. [Read more…]

webOS runs on PC Hardware

A PreCentral user has successfully loaded up a webOS image on to an IDE hard drive and managed to get it to run on a real PC, meaning it isn’t running as a virtual machine.

The image used comes from the webOS emulator which is compatible with x86 based processors. Some things to note though are that this method will not work with other types of drive such as SATA. IDE is the required type of drive at the moment.

The user, cdowers, used webOS on a standard Dell C600 laptop. Although the OS still runs at the same resolution that you’d get on a Pre smartphone for example, it is certainly an interesting test that could in the near future see webOS put on to tablet computers for example. [Read more…]
