HTC EVO 4G Rooted

The HTC EVO 4G hasn’t launched yet, and wont for another 11 days, yet some has already managed to root the new smartphone.

At the Google I/O event last week, the company handed out free HTC EVO 4G handsets to all those in attendance. One guy who attended the event decided to work with a couple of other friends over the weekend just gone and they managed to get root on the device allowing super user access to the smartphone.

Details of how to root the HTC EVO 4G have not been revealed just yet although we expect we’ll find out in the next few weeks after the launch of the new handset. [Read more…]

Apple iPhone 4G – 24 Million to Ship in 2010

Digitimes is reporting today that Foxconn will be shipping 24 million Apple iPhone 4G units this year. 4.5 million units will be shipping in the first half and that will be followed by 19.5 million units in the final half of 2010. Apple [AAPL] is planning on the 4G being a huge success.

Foxconn will ship 4.5 million units in the first half and 19.5 million units for the rest of 2010. Apple is expected to unveil the iPhone 4G on June 7, 2010 during Apple’s Worldwide Developers Conference.

We also hear that the iPhone 4G will use an IPS (in plane switching) screen just like the technology used in the Apple iPad. As well as using IPS the screens will also use FFS (fringe-field switching). The resolution of the iPhone 4G screen will be 960 x 640 which is significantly higher than the iPhone 3GS that has a resolution of 480 x 320 pixels. [Read more…]

Sprint Launch Common Cents Mobile – New Prepaid Brand at Walmart

Sprint [S] has launched a new prepaid brand that is heading exclusively to Walmart stores. The new brand is called Common Cents Mobile and has basic plans that includes 7 cents per minute calls and 7 cent text messages as part of the deal.

One unique features of the new Sprint Common Cents Mobile system is that it actually rounds-down calls to the nearest minute meaning that if your call is 7 minutes 59 seconds long you get charged for 7 minutes rather than 8 minutes.

“In recent months, consumers seeking no-frills, pay-by-the-minute plans have been somewhat overlooked with the popularity of unlimited plans in the market,” said Dan Schulman, president of Sprint’s prepaid group. “These customers want to stay connected — to a point — but don’t want to waste time or money on services they don’t use. The addition of Common Cents combines easy-to-use handsets with a simple pay-by-the-minute service that can save them money.”

Unlimited monthly plans without contracts helped re-energize the prepaid business last year but pay-by-the-minute customers still represent the majority [63 percent] of prepaid market share, and almost half [49 percent] of prepaid gross adds.

Apple iPad UK Release date is May 28

Apple [AAPL] has finally given a date for the first international launch of the Apple iPad. In the UK we can expect to get the iPad on May 28 although prices have still not been provided. Press release below…

Google Android Dragonpoint TV Box from Sony

Google [GOOG] could be launching a new version of Android called Dragonpoint.

This information comes from information found over at Bloomberg that says…

“Sony, aiming to win back share lost to Samsung Electronics Co. and LG Electronics Inc., would use Intel and Google to help produce televisions and Blu-ray DVD players with Internet access. Intel, whose processors run 80 percent of personal computers, wants to get its chips into new areas, including mobile phones and consumer electronics…

…Intel is contributing a customized version of its Atom chip that will run a new version of Google’s Android operating system called Dragonpoint.”

TomTom Go Live 1000 Announced

TomTom [TOM2] today announced a new satnav device called the TomTom Go Live 1000. The device is capable of bringing real-time services to users which we will go in to more detail shortly.

The TomTom Go Live 1000 uses an ARM 11 500Mhz processor and uses a new Webkit-based user interface along with a capacitive touchscreen.

The new Go Live 1000 product allows integration of third party applications. The system comes with TomTom HD Traffic (a 1 year free subscription) along with a mobile speed camera database and local search across 16 countries. [Read more…]

Jobo photoGPS Models receive an Update

Two new photoGPS models have been launched by Jobo that bring more capacity and more locations to the GPS tracking devices.

The Jobo photoGPS 2 and photoGPS 4 are devices that sit on the hot-shoe of a camera and track GPS coordinates each time a photo is taken. When transferring images to a computer and the GPS information from the photoGPS module, the details are then merged.

These two new models have more coverage in streets, municipalities and POI’s by 23%, 42% and 27% respectively. [Read more…]

Intel Atom System-on-chip (SoC) Unveiled

Intel have announced a new version of it’s Intel Atom processor that uses a system-on-chip configuration. The Intel Atom SoC has been nicknamed Tunnel Creek and will be based around the Moorestown Atom chip.

The chip it’s self will be designed to be used in computers embedded around the home which could include home media systems, phones, tablets or perhaps even in-car entertainment and navigation systems to name a few things.

SoC allows the chip to contain the CPU it’s self along with a memory controller and graphics cores as well allowing easier integration in to devices. [Read more…]

Winner of Last Weeks Nokia X6 Comes with Music Contest

It’s Monday morning and time now to announce the winner of our Nokia X6 “Comes with Music” contest. This contest was our first in quite a long time, but we plan on changing that now to start offering weekly contests, the next of which starts tonight where we are putting an LG Crystal mobile phone as the prize.

The winner of the Nokia X6 competition was chosen randomly from all Comments, RSS Readers, Facebook Fans and Twitter followers. The winner ended up coming from the Facebook group of fans and was Alexis who has been contacted to congratulate her on winning.

Samsung Omnia II Passes the 600,000 Sales mark in S Korea

Samsung have announced that over 600,000 Samsung Omnia II’s have been sold since it’s launch a few months back. These numbers relate to sales in South Korea only.

Three versions of the Omnia II exist in S.Korea with three network operators slightly changing the hardware. The one on the left is the T*Omnia II on the SKT network, the SHOW Omnia for KT and OZ Omnia for LGT.

Sales for the device average out to 100,000 per month with reasons cited for the success of sales being due to aftersales service as well as how good the Omnia II is. [Read more…]

Nokia Aquires Novarra – a Mobile Web Browser Company

Novarra is a name you might not be too familiar with in the mobile phone industry, yet their software powers many mobile phone browsers around the world.

The Novarra company has provided software to Palm, Motorola and Samsung as well as several other companies. Novarra’s main product is the Vision Mobile Browser that runs on both Java or BREW. This particular browser is used on the Sprint networks lineup of basic phones (their entry level devices).

Due to the sheer amount of phones that use this software, Nokia buying the company will create quite a stir in the industry. [Read more…]
