htc-snapdragonTechCrunch are reporting that a new HTC phone running Android is just around the corner. Described as the next “super” Android Device, it is expected that HTC are to be the ones who will build the phone. Also TC mention that senior Android guys over at Google have now started carrying one of the HTC phones around for testing.

It is expected that the Dragon/Passion will be a super slim phone running Android… but TC also mention something else interesting in that there will actually be a real Google phone, branded by Google. Although not much is known about this Google branded phone, TC managed to find out that they are definitely working on a phone under their own brand. [Read more…]

Sony XBR11, XBR12 and OLED Screens Leaked

sony-xbr11A leak shows that Sony are to launch a new range of TV’s that will probably go on display at CES in 2010 in just a few weeks time. Amongst the new TV’s is a new OLED screen that is a new model from the XEL-1 that was a 3mm thick, 11 inch OLED screen launched last year. As of now it is unknown what size of screen the new OLED TV will be. I’d expect it to be a larger screen to perhaps compete with the new 15 inch LG OLED screen.

Also a new HDTV called the Sony KDL-XBR12 series has been mentioned that uses “high range advanced LED RGB” backlighting to function allowing for blacker blacks due to being able to dim certain parts of the screen individually. [Read more…]

Facts about Search Giant Google

google-computer-storage-legoNeatorama have gathered some interesting facts about Google and put them all in a single blog post over on their site. The various facts include a lego storage case that held 10 x 4GB hard drives allowing enough storage capacity for their PageRank algo to be tested successfully. Another fact mentions that the I’m Feeling Lucky button costs Google around $110 Million a year in lost ad revenues and if you want to know how many servers Google has… you might find out in the blog post, or you might not.

ASUS ESC 1000 1.1 Teraflop Supercomputer

asus_esc_1000_supercomputerAsustek have revealed details on their first supercomputer this week named the ASUS ESC 1000. The ESC 1000 is capable of speeds up to 1.1 teraflops by using NVIDIA graphics processors.

One teraflop is one trillion flops (floating point operations per second), a measure of computing speed. Computers able to perform at such high speeds can be used in a variety of ways, including scientific research, image manipulation, engineering modeling or for medical purposes.

The ESC 1000 is powered by a 3.33GHz Intel LGA1366 Xeon W3580 processor that is designed for use in servers. What really gives this machine a good kick is the amount of processing cores it has. The machine has 960 graphics processing cores provided by NVIDIA with three Tesla C1060 Computing Processors along with a Quadro FX5800 each also provided by NVIDIA. [Read more…]

Canon EOS-1D Mark IV Announced

canon-eos-mark-iv-press-rm-eng1Canon have announced the Mark 4 version of their EOS-1D camera. The camera comes with a 16.1 megapixel sensor with an ISO range of 100 to 12,800 native all the way up to 102,400.

Other features in the Canon EOS-1D Mark IV include a 45 point area autofocus that is customixable along with 39 high precision cross type focusing points. To capture and process the image the camera has two Digic 4 processors and thanks to all this power the camera can capture full HD video at 1080p.

The camera will be priced at around $5000 (estimation) although some have pointed out that 1D series cameras are typically below $4000 for body only setups. [Read more…]

Flip Mino HD gets a Revamp

flipminohd120min-lg2Flip Video have announced a new Flip Mino HD camera that doubles the storage capacity making it possible to store two hours of video, and ads a larger screen that bumps it up from 1.5″ to 2 inches in size.

The whole camera has had a revamp including newer and more responsive touch-sensitive buttons, a more sleeker look and a HDMI output.

The software on the Flip Mino HD has also received an upgrade and now gives the option for users to send footage direct to Facebook. The interface has also received an upgrade and now presents more organised clips for you to search through. Finally the camera has the ability to auto edit and transition footage in to clips ready for upload. [Read more…]

FleXpeaker – Thin Flexible Audio Speaker

flexspeaker-thin-speakerFleXpeaker is a flexible speaker that can be bent to a certain point without distorting the audio being produced by it.

It was created by a company called ITRI that are based in Taiwan and from the technical specs it shows that the speaker has a frequency range of 500Hz to 20KHz giving it a fair bit of the hearing range.

The speaker it’s self is very thin and can be mounted on a wall for example. ITRI are also looking in to the possibility of linking a number of these together to create a larger wall of sound so to speak. [Read more…]

Samsung Behold II AMOLED Android Phone

SGH-t939_right1Samsung are launching a new Android phone on to the T-Mobile network in the US. The phone is the Samsung Behold II and it features a 3.2 inch AMOLED touchscreen along with a 5 megapixel camera.

Other features of this phone include Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 2.1 and 3G connectiity. The Behold II uses the TouchWiz UI that overlays on top of Android. All the regular google style apps can be found in the Android OS phone that includes maps, voice search, youtube etc… Also included with this phone is Microsoft Exchange support which is a nice addition allowing the phone to be used more in businesses that support Exchange server.

Storage wise the memory can be expanded up to 16GB by using microSD cards. [Read more…]

Hasselblad H4D 60 Megapixel Camera Launching

hasselblad-h4d-lg1Hasselblad are launching their latest camera named the H4D. The H4D is a 60 megapixel camera that uses a true off-centre autofocus system…

…known as True Focus. Where even DSLRs often have to first focus and then reposition the camera to get focus significantly away from the center, the H4D has a yaw rate sensor that can detect the horizontal and vertical movement away from the focus point and refocus the lens to compensate.

Augmented Reality brings Google Earth to Life

Google-Earth-Augmented-RealityAlthough Google Earth is a fantastic program allowing you to quickly zoom in and out of most of the earth with an excellent amount of detail, what it still lacks is life as everything you look at is static.

A new system being tested brings real time events to Google Earth to make an augmented reality. Examples of this working could be zooming in to a road to see cars driving and pedestrians walking. The data used to generate this information actually captures the current live traffic and current locations of pedestrians to let you know how busy a certain area is. Another example allows you to zoom in to a football stadium and actually see a clip from several angles of people playing football. [Read more…]

Over 30 New Smartphones to run Windows 6.5 by Christmas

windows-mobile-65A Microsoft Executive has commented saying that more that 30 new Windows Mobile 6.5 devices will be launched before the end of this year. These will be made up from over 15 handset vendors which include HTC, Acer, Samsung, LG, Sony Ericsson, Toshiba, HP as well as others.

As well as handset makers getting involved, a number of carriers have also shown interest which includes…”AT&T, Sprint Nextel, Verizon Wireless, Orange, T-Mobile, Vodafone, NTT DoCoMO, Softbank Mobile, SKT, Telstra and Telus, have also voiced support for Windows Mobile 6.5, the sources added.” [Read more…]

Canon EOS 7D Review

Canon-EOS-7DUpdate: Canon EOS 7D Available at Amazon. DPReview have posted a preview of the Canon EOS 7D to see what extras it brings to the Canon EOS range of cameras. Due to stronger competition from the Sony Alpha range of cameras and Nikon’s D200 and D300 cameras it now means that Canon have to step up even more to get noticed.

The camera has a new 18 megapixel sensor and has an impressive viewfinder with a 1.0% magnification showing 100% of the frame rather than a 95% viewfinder that is in the EOS 50D. DPReview mention the 50D in their 7D review but say it’s not based at all around it. [Read more…]
