Star Wars Force Trainer

star_wars_force_trainer_comboWe have already mentioned the Star Wars Force Trainer a few months back, but as it’s now available at ThinkGeek we thought we’d mention it again.

The Force is all around us. It flows around and through us. It is between us and that tree and the rock, around our sunken X-Wing, going through our wallet, tickling our armpits, and flowing between our ears. You think we’re joking, but the only way to guide the Force outside your body is to guide the Force inside your head. Yoda told us that once when we had stew over at his house. The stew was ok (if you like licking swamp creatures), but the advice was invaluable.

Star Trek Enterprise Record Player

Star-Trek-Enterprise-Record-PlayerTaken from the Star Trek Model Gallery we have here an Enterprise record player. It was designed from the NCC-1701 from the new Star Trek movie and uses the saucer section as the turntable where the music entitled “Space” can be seen playing.

Unfortunately it’s not real and just designed along with 24 other real random looking Enterprises from the film. [Read more…]

iPod Nano Carved Cassette Cases

lg-casecSomeone has created some really nice cases for the 4th Gen iPod Nano. It looks like they were custom built and due to the fairly small size of the Nano, the iPod fits in quite well inside.

I guess if you went and got a Dremel you could possibly carve one of these out yourself but I wouldn’t be able to guarantee you’d get it to look as good as the ones pictured here. [Read more…]

wd-scorpio-blue-hddWestern Digital have created the highest capacity 2.5″ with a 12.5mm form factor hard drive. The highest of the 2 new drives can store 1TB of data and uses a 333 GB per platter technology. The drives are designed to be used in portable computers such as laptops and will provide a huge amount of storage space allowing for media to easily be carried around. [Read more…]

microUSB is the new Mobile Phone Charging Standard

microusb-standard-chargerFor the last few years the GSM Association has been trying to get a charging standard across all mobile phones. The roll out will start in Europe over the next few years where the large manufacturers which includes LG, Motorola, Nokia, Sony Ericsson, Research in Motion, NEX, Qualcomm and TI. Strangely enough, there is no mention of HTC who have become big in the smart phone race. However, I believe that most, if not all, of their phones already use the microUSB standard to charge. Have Sony Given up on OLED TV’s?

A few weeks ago at Gadget Show Live I had the chance to check out Sony’s XEL-1 OLED TV. The TV measures 11″ diagonal and is just 3mm thick. The TV has been around a while now and unfortunately it will be Sony’s last OLED TV that they work on. A Sony spokesman admitted ‘We really made the XEL-1 just to prove that we could make it. Sony believe that OLED technology is more suited to mobile type devices.

Research/predictions done recently suggest that the big players in the OLED field in the future will be Panasonic, LG, Toshiba and Samsung with no mention of Sony. The OLED TV industry in just 6 years time is expected to be worth $5.5 billion so it seems odd that Sony have pulled the plug so to speak. (Hopefully we get official word soon on this matter as it’s unlike Sony to pull out of something like this).

OLED TV’s are fantastic devices as they have an extremely good contrast ratio of 1,000,000:1, reduced power consumption and are extremely thin. The current hurdle at the moment is cost with the XEL-1 costing up near $2500 for an 11″ screen. But, technology does get cheaper as advancements are made and it’s only a matter of time when we stick an ultra thin telly to our wall. [Read more…]

Roomba Robot Vac responds to Emotions

roomba_emotionsThe Roomba Robot Vacuum cleaner is normally used to clean your carpets automatically. However, a group of researchers over at the Calgary University are testing the mixing of emotions with the Roomba.

The Roomba was modified to react to signals sent to it from a device that reads your stress levels. The device monitors muscle tension and eye movement in an attempt to let the Roomba know how you are feeling. If you are stressed out then the vacuum will back off a bit and move slower.
