No other details on the phone are known other than what we obviously see in the picture of it in that it has a full QWERTY keyboard that slides out the left side of the device along with a large touchscreen, three physical buttons below the screen that are mandatory on all Windows Phone 7 Series handsets and we assume a 1GHz Snapdragon processor that is also mandatory. LG Unveil 13.3 Inch Capacitive Multi-Touch Laptop Screen

LG have created a new display that has obtained the Windows 7 Touch Logo certification. The screen measures 13.3 inches and is a capacitive multitouch screen that is designed for netbooks and laptops.

LG have taken a slightly different approach in creating this touchscreen. Normally a layer is applied over a standard display. In this case, LG have built touch sensor within the display it’s self. Benefits of using this type of system are that the screen size can stay the same thickness regardless of it being touch or not (which ads slight bulk to a screen). Also picture quality is not filtered at all allowing for crisp images to be seen. [Read more…]

LG to Focus on Handsets that Run Windows Phone and Android

Mobile phone company LG in the past have focussed on their own operating system running S-Class. Although it worked quite well, it always had a few niggles inside that made it frustrating to use with some screen transitions not being as smooth as the iPhone for example. Their hardware for a long time has always been top notch though. Following their own OS they then switched to making Windows Mobile devices with the S-Class interface on top.

LG made an announcement that they are not in the market of developing their own proprietary OS. Instead, they will focus more on the handsets that will run either Google [GOOG] Android or Windows Phone 7 Series. This is good news as both the OS’s mentioned are being heavily developed by dedicated teams and in the terms of Android (the only one of the two currently available), it is making serious steps forwards in to becoming in the “top 3” mobile phone operating systems. LG Air Sync Demoed

LG Air Sync is way that connects mobile phones to the cloud so that files can be seamlessly shared between devices. This technology is first to be used on the new LG Mini GD880 that was announced recently. However, the Air Sync software hasn’t hit it’s end of life just yet as LG continue to develop the software and have come up with a new concept shown below which makes use of a surface computer to move data to and from various devices.

The demo shows an LG phone being placed on a surface computer which immediately detects the phone and loads up a couple of sync areas. One of them is a PC Suite while the other is the cloud. By dragging files around to various areas it makes syncing files easy. An example shows a photo being placed on the surface screen and this being read in to the computer and then dragged to the sync folder where it then pops up on the phone. [Read more…]

LG Mini GD880 Announced

Bear with us for the next 30 minutes or so as several new handsets have been announced over at MWC, three of which are from HTC although this first one is an LG handset. First off is the LG Mini GD880 which claims to be the worlds first 3 way sync feature phone… we’ll explain what that means shortly.

The LG GD880 Mini is a phone measuring just 10.6mm in depth and weighs just 99 grams. The LG 3-Way Sync service is called LG Air Sync and allows mobile phones to sync continuously with their home computer so that when data is uploaded to one device, it is automatically backed up on the other device over the internet. Files that could be included in the LG Air Sync are photos, video clips, phone books, celendars to name a few.

“We live in an information-oriented society with vast amounts of data and content scattered all over the place. Because of this, one of the major battles in the future mobile market is likely to be in the data management technology industry, focusing on seamless access among different devices,” said Dr. Skott Ahn, President and CEO of LG Electronics Mobile Communications Company. “We have developed the LG Mini, which offers technological integration with its unique LG Air Sync service, in response to this trend.”
