ASUS Unveil MeMo Glasses-Free 3D Tablet

The ASUS MeMo is a glasses-free 3D tablet. It was first unveiled at CES earlier this year and once again, has been put on display over at Computex.

The difference between the CES model and the Computex model is that the new version now has 3D. It uses a 7 inch screen that has a resolution of 1280 x 600 pixels. The display also uses IPS technology that provides a wide viewing angle.

Hitachi 7mm-thick Hard Drive Capacity Increased to 500GB

Hitachi has launched a new hard drive that measures 7mm in thickness and manages to cram 500GB of storage on to the disk inside.

The Google Chrome OS release date has been set at “this year” for a while now, but with the end of the year getting close, you might be wondering if it will actually launch.

Dell Inspiron Duo Tablet – Launching December for $549

Dell is about to sell the Inspiron Duo Tablet. The launch date will be the first week of December and when launched, it will have a price tag of $549.99.

The tablet is unique in that its a laptop with a revolving screen that allows you to work with the device as a tablet or netbook. Unlike most other tablet/netbook devices, this has two hinges and allows the screen to rotate within the frame rather than on a single rotating hinge point.

ASUS Eee PC 1215T Now Available

The sheer amount of netbooks that ASUS launch is a bit silly, but they continue to push them out. The next one just landing is the ASUS Eee PC 1215T that has a 12.1 inch display.

Rather than using an Intel Atom / Ion 2 combination, the 1215T uses 1.7GHz AMD Athlon K125 processor. RAM wise, it has 2GB and for storage it uses a 320GB hard drive. The operating system running on this particular netbook is Windows 7 Home Premium. [Read more…]

T-Mobile HSPA+ Network Now in 75 Areas

T-Mobile in the US has announced expansion of its 4G speed networks (running on HSPA+). 75 areas now have access to HSPA+ allowing those within and with compatible devices, to download data at higher speeds.

“4G is about performance and today T-Mobile’s HSPA+ network is delivering 4G speeds that match and often beat WiMAX and are readily comparable to what early LTE will deliver. Our 4G network is capable of theoretical speeds up to 21Mbps and we have seen average download speeds approaching 5 Mbps on our myTouch 4G phone in some cities with peak speeds of nearly 12 Mbps. Further, independent reviewers have seen average download speeds on our webConnect Rocket between 5 and 8 Mbps with peak speeds up to 8-10Mbps,” said Neville Ray, chief technology officer, T-Mobile USA. “The footprint of our 4G service is not something that competitors are going to match anytime soon, and starting today, we will begin marketing our network advantage with TV commercials advertising ‘America’s Largest 4G Network’ from T-Mobile.” [Read more…]

Google Chrome OS SmartBook Could Land This Month

Digitimes is reporting that Google [GOOG] could be launching a Google Chrome OS smartbook this month. The report indicates that Google will be using a similar strategy to how the Nexus One was created. Ie, another company created the Google branded hardware.

Google’s Chrome notebook is expected to be manufactured by Inventec with initial shipments to reach 60,000-70,000 units. The Google Chrome notebook will feature an ARM-based platform and will not be selling through retail channels.

Viewsonic ViewPad 7 & 10 Release Dates Revealed

ViewSonic has released details of the US launch of the ViewPad 7 and 10 models. ViewSonic confirmed that the 7 inch model will launch in the forth quarter of this year with a price tag of $479 while the larger 10 inch model will arrive early next year with a price tag of $629.

Each of the ViewSonic tablets is slightly different. The larger of the two devices is actually a dual booting machine that runs both Windows 7 Home Premium and Google Android 1.6. When switching it on you get to choose which OS boots up. For times when you quickly need to check email, you can boot in to Android and quickly grab those. For times when tasks are a little more demanding, you can then choose Windows. [Read more…]
