Asus Eee PC 701 Modded in to a Tablet Form Factor

The Asus Eee PC 701 is a netbook that launched a couple of years ago. It had a 7 inch screen when launched and kick started the netbook scene to what it is today.

This particular Asus Eee 701 has been modded and changed in to a tablet form factor. The guy responsible goes by the name of McG and took the Eee apart, made a few modifications inside and put it back together.

Since everything did work well, he went ahead and began to use it for the function it was originally designed for: to read eBooks, watching movies made by DVD Shrink, and to use as a portable media player. In case you would want to mod your EeePC, you could also choose better Touchscreen drivers with 90 deg, 180 deg and 270 orientations.

ASUS Eee 1015P and 1015PE get 13.5 Hour Battery

ASUS has announced two new netbooks called the ASUS Eee 1015P and the 1015PE. Each are fairly standard netbooks running the usual Intel Atom N450 processor. The screens on each device measure 10.1 inches and are backlit by LED. The resolution is 1024×600 pixels.

What makes the ASUS Eee 10015P/PE stand-out most though is the impressive 13.5 hour battery life that each model can achieve. Of course the tests that get 13.5 hours will be fairly easy going, but what a 13.5 hour battery life on an easy run means that with WiFi, full brightness and intensive applications you should still get a good 10 hours of usage on a single charge.

Each of the netbooks run Windows 7 Starter for the OS and both netbooks can connect up to Eee storage for an extra 500GB to store files on-line. [Read more…]

VentureBeat are reporting that Acer are set to launch new Chrome OS based devices in as little as two weeks. The new devices (we assume netbooks and maybe smartbooks) will be launched at Computex that is being held in Taipei from June 1 to June 5.

Google [GOOG] designed Chrome OS to function on netbooks, tablets and smartbook devices, so it could be either one of those with the emphasis probably being on the netbook and smartbooks.

No other information is known about Acer and their plans for Chrome OS, but as June is only a few weeks away, it wont be long before we find out for sure where they are heading with Chrome OS. [Read more…]
