ASUS-Eee-PadASUS are getting ready to launch a new device they will call the Eee Pad. The ASUS Eee Pad is a tablet based device that will have a screen measuring between 4 and 7 inches that will function as a tablet and MID.

The Eee Pad was inspired by rumours of Apple launching the Apple Tablet from what sources told Digitimes.

ASUS are well known for their Eee range of netbooks and should they add a tablet/MID to that range it will further boost the series of small devices. [Read more…]

Dell Android Tablet to be Revealed at CES 2010

dell-logoPocket-Lint has found out information saying that an Android based tablet device will be revealed at CES 2010 by Dell. The tablet will go head to head with a number of new tablets such as the JooJoo and Archos Internet Tablet.

The new device will sit between the size of a smartphone and a netbook with the screen size measuring 5 inches. The device from Dell will run the Android OS operating system and be launched sometime next year in the UK. It is expected that the Dell Tablet will be first revealed at CES 2010 in January. The Acer 1820PTZ as mentioned, is a netbook tablet. The screen can be swivelled around and folded back down allowing you to use pen input. The tablet is also multitouch allowing more than one finger to make contact with the screen for zooming and gesture input. [Read more…]

Dual Touchscreen Tablet – Harlequin

Dual-Touch-Screen-TabletA user over on the MyDellMini forums has created a dual touchscreen netbook by using a Dell Mini 9 netbook and a 9″ USB DisplayLink monitor and connecting them together.

The device is the Harlequin Project and was designed to experiment with a dual touchscreen user interface (ie, similar to the Microsoft Courier) as well as design testing.

The Harlequin works as it is now and has Windows 7 installed which can detect both screens and the touchscreen overlays without issues except there are still some calibration issues on the second monitor. [Read more…]

Fusion Garage JooJoo Revealed

joojooWe spoke about the CrunchPad last week and about what had happened between TechCrunch and Fusion Garage and their breakup so to speak. At that time we only had one side of the story from TechCrunch. Fusion Garage have now spoken regarding the issues and basically said that no contract was in place. Engadget have a run down of the webcast that was given by Fusion Garage and go in to some of the details although I guess we’ll never really know what happened.

The JooJoo (formally known as CrunchPad) was revealed briefly showing a tablet style device with a touchscreen that boots direct in to a browser in about 9 seconds. [Read more…]

ASUS 1201N Available for Pre-Order

aus-eee-pc-1201N1ASUS were planning to launch the ASUS Eee 1201N this month, however, it was delayed until next month.

Amazon have the ASUS 1201N available now for pre-order with a tentative shipping date of January 15.

The 1201N netbook is priced at $499 and comes with an Intel Atom 330 processor along with NVIDIA’s ION chipset. [Read more…]

Asus Eee 1201T with AMD Congo MV40 Processor

ASUS-Eee-1201tASUS are launching a number of 1201 range netbooks with the next being the ASUS Eee 1201T. The ASUS 1201T differs from the 1201N (ION) and 1201HA (GMA) powered netbooks by offering an AMD Congo MV40 processor inside.

The 1201T netbook is described as having good multimedia performance that can handle video in 1080p full HD format. This is mainly thanks to the ATI Radeon HD3200 chipset found inside.

Battery life on the netbook with the 6 cell battery gives around 4 hours of life. [Read more…]

Dell Mini 10 Gets Chrome OS

dell-chrome-osDell have managed to create a Google Chrome OS image for booting a Dell Mini 10 from USB in to the new operating system. Before reading on for the details, note that this was just created recently, hasn’t had much testing and is unsupported by Dell.

The new operating system hasn’t been officially launched yet, but already has a number of people going through the source code to create versions that run virtualised on VMWare and other software along with a USB install over at Engadget just last week.

The version from Dell can be downloaded (8GB memory stick needed) and does function with Wi-Fi or wired connections. A couple of problems with this version is that wireless takes from 5 – 10 minutes to actually start working, although it does work. [Read more…]

MSI Wind U230 Launched

MSI-Wind-U230MSI have launched a new notebook computer called the MSI Wind U230. The MSI U230 has a 12.1 inch LCD display that can display 1366 x 768 pixels. Powering the notebook is an AMD Congo MV40 processor. For RAM you have the option of up to 4GB of DDR2.

Storage wise the notebook comes with a selection of 160GB, 250GB and 320GB depending on the model you choose. Connectivity see’s the netbook connect at 802.11b/g/n and an Ethernet port is built in capable of speeds up to 1GBps. Bluetooth 2.0+EDR is included also for quick transfer of files to and from a mobile phone, or for making use of a Bluetooth headset if needed. [Read more…]

Compaq-cq61As well as introducing the ASUS Eee 1005HGO netbook on to their network, Orange also are offering the Compaq CQ61 notebook along with a dongle for mobile web browsing.

The Compaq CQ61 notebook is available with a number of data plans ranging from 18 to 24 months. However, unlike the Asus 1005HGO, most plans need you to pay a fee up front to get this notebook. Prices start at £29.36 on a 1GB 18 month contract, but you will need to pay £130 for the notebook. If you pay about £35/month on a 24 month contract then you can get the notebook for free.
