Apple AirPrint via Mac/Windows Could Be Delayed

AppleInsider has reported that AirPrint in iOS 4.2 could be delayed indefinitely for those who would connect up to a printer on a Windows or Mac based device. Rather than being able to print to a shared printer as originally planned, it seems that this feature might be pulled out of iOS 4.2 and instead of using shared printers, the system might only work with wireless printers in the HP range.

Specifically, the five models mentioned are the following…

* HP Photosmart Premium Fax e-All-in-One Printer – C410
* HP Photosmart Premium e-All-in-One Printer series – C310
* HP Photosmart Plus e-All-in-One Printer series – B210
* HP ENVY 100 e-All-in-One Printer Series – D410
* HP Photosmart eStation Printer series – C510″

iOS 4.1 Jailbreak for iPhone 3GS Incoming

The jailbreak software is called Sn0wbreeze 2.0 and when available, will allow Windows users to create custom firmware files that prevent the baseband being updated when you upgrade the firmware on the phone. What this in turn does is allows you to use Ultrasn0w to unlock the phone so that it can be used on any carrier you want (or any compatible carrier we should say). [Read more…]

Parallels Mobile App Brings Windows Access to iOS

Parallels recently released Parallels Desktop 6 for Mac. A new update to the Parallels Mobile for iPad and iPhone has now been released that lets users connect up to their Windows machines direct from the iPad or iPhone.

The video below shows a demonstration of how the new update works and exactly what can be done with it. Of course there’s a small bit of lag (large lag in some cases when on slow networks), but overall it looks to be quite impressive.

Unfortunately the previous versions of Parallels Mobile were more restricted and hence, only a two start rating is given for the app at the moment. Now that more control has been given to users, we expect to see the star rating rise. [Read more…]

FaceTime for Mac and Windows Rumoured

FaceTime currently works between iOS 4 devices that have a front facing camera only. Rumours are circulating at the moment that indicate a client for the Mac and Windows could be launching that would allow a FaceTime call from an iPhone 4, for example, to a PC.

It is expected that the Mac version would be built in to the iChat software. Although it is a rumour just now, we suspect that it could be true as Apple [AAPL] is wanting to push FaceTime a lot. By integrating with the desktop it would allow video calls to be used by more people. [Read more…]

HP Slate Running Windows 7 Could Still be Announced

Microsofts [MSFT] Worldwide Partner Conference kicks off today over in Washington D.C. where it is expected that the HP Slate could be on show again. A few months back it seemed like the HP Slate had been dropped due to HP buying Palm and webOS. Most people expected that a HP Slate running webOS was going to happen.

Over on the WPC website, captured above and below, it shows Windows 7 Slates with HP being listed as one of the “partners” which kind of indicates that there could actually be a Windows 7 HP Slate launching perhaps this year.

Other companies listed include Sony, Dell, ASUS, Panasonic and a number of other large brands. [Read more…]
