iPhone Modem Software

iphonemodemThe latest mobile phones running Windows Mobile have an option where you can use the phone as a USB Modem by simply loading up some software and hitting connect. This makes browsing the internet at high speed possible as long as you have a mobile phone signal. However, iPhone’s do not have this option built in. A new piece of software named iPhone Modem has been released which will allow you to use your iPhone as a modem for your laptop. [Read more…]

ASUS ZX1 – iPhone Killer

ASUS_ZX1A rumour was floating around a few days ago about a new mobile phone built by ASUS and branded by Lamborghini. Only mock up’s were available at the time to show what it could look like. Engadget managed to get a look at the ZX1 over at CeBit recently and I admit that the phone does look quite cool. A number of people have been calling it an iPhone killer which seems to be a popular phrase thrown around these days. The ZX1 runs Windows Mobile 6.1 core which also has a number of ASUS tweaks which we hope makes the interface a little more iPhone esq and streamline. Unsubsidised it will set you back $1500 although expect to see this drop quite a bit on contract. The 3G phone will launch in May around Europe and could be one to look out for.

So will this phone be an iPhone killer? Who knows. It will be hard for ASUS to gain the popularity of the iPhone, but yet, Windows Mobile powers a heck of a lot of devices which added together, in theory, could make Windows Mobile an iPhone killer.

MS Windows XP in your Pocket

Pocket XP
The USB flash drive has become more useful over the years with devices such as the VPhone from Vonage allowing you to carry around a land line which can be loaded up on any computer with internet access. With the rise of memory storage capacity also come other uses such as this Windows backup OS on a flash drive.

Put your self in this situation. You are out on business and you load up some software containing a virus which destroys part of your Windows XP OS. Being out of the road and having no access to the internet on another PC would make it very hard to fix this issue. Having a bootable flash drive running Windows XP would solve this problem for you. Using Bart PE Builder you can create a very handy flash drive with OS and plenty of utilities which could save your laptop a lot quicker then sending it back to the IT dept to fix.

pRSSReader – Windows Mobile RSS Reader

pRSSReader
RSS has become an efficient way of reading information from many sources on the internet but by keeping them all in the same place. pRSSReader is a great peice of software written for Windows Mobile which allows you to download your latest feeds to your Pocket PC. An extra bonus feature about this software is that it is free at the moment. It is compatible with Pocket PC 2002 up to Windows Mobile 5 but unfortunatly now with Smartphone Edition. No doubt an update will happen soon to sort this as it would make sense to have the smartphone edition connect via GSM to get the RSS feeds.

Features built in allow you to manage your reads, cache images with in feeds for reading on the road, prozy support, summaries and more. For full details, follow the link below.

TORQ N100 GPS PDA Phone

SlashGear got their hands on the TORQ N100 GPS PDA phone and did the good old unboxing ceremony. Their verdict is that it’s a nice device with lots of good things crammed inside. Features such as GPS, a 1.3 Mega pixel camera and it runs Windows Mobile 5. With it having Windows Mobile 5.0 you get the usual standard stuff such as the web browser, Media player and other MSN type software. The N100 does not have EDGE support but can connect to the internet via GPRS. Battery life is something else which caught my eye. Running as a PDA you can get around 10 – 15 hours, running as a phone you get around 4 and GPS goes lower then that. Still very good and useful for the traveler.

Black Diamond Smartphone

The Black Diamond Smartphone was a concept a few months back and most of us thought it would stay that way. However, a company called VIPM is going to be producing these in very limited numbers. Basically it means that they will be a tad on the expensive side (ie… you wont get it free with a contract). The price tag will be somewhere in the $300k price range. Yes… that K is another 3 zero’s on there 🙂

It looks amazing. It runs the Windows Mobile 5.0 platform and has a 2 inch screen. It has a 400Mhz XScale processor with wifi, bluetooth, 128Meg of internal memory and a touch sensative keypad.

Earlier I mentioned it is a limited edition. A total of 5 will be made. Good luck at getting one 🙂 And raising the money to buy it. What happens if it breaks though? Will they ship another? That would mean that a 6th would have to be made. Hmmmm.

Sharp W-ZERO3 Smartphone

Another beauty from Sharp. The W-ZERO3 smartphone has now been revealed. Do not get too excited though… it’s going to be launched in Japan only according to sources. The new Windows Mobile 5.0 smartphone has some rather flashy features. It is powered by a 416Mhz Intel PXA270 processor and can handle a resolution of 640×480 on a 2.8″ screen. It can operate both in portrait and landscape mode. It has a slide out keyboard and includes a stylus to make navigation far easier. It has wifi, 1.3 megapixel camera although Bluetooth support is not listed as a feature (Like I care with it going to Japan only:)).
