Motorola Want a Windows Phone 7 Deal Like Nokia

Motorola is currently focussed on using Android in its smartphones. This could change in the future though as the CEO Sanjay Jha has recently commented that they would be willing to use Windows Phone 7 as an OS if Microsoft was willing to give them a similar deal as to what Nokia has.

Skype To Bring Video Calling to Windows Phone 7

By the end of 2011 you will more than likely be able to use Skype on your Windows Phone 7 smartphone to make video calls. This assumes you have a front facing camera of course.

Microsoft is currently hiring someone “…for building and optimizing the Skype Video Engine solution for Microsoft Windows and Windows Phone platforms.”. This strongly indicates that Skype video calling will be coming soon to WP7 smartphones.

Microsoft Gives Windows Phone a New Logo

Microsoft has now released a new logo for Windows Phone. The new logo is part of the Mango update and has appeared in the latest build 7710 and all those that follow.

The logo is more basic than the previous version and is flat and somewhat looks like the tile system that Microsoft use on Windows Phone smartphones.

Microsoft Windows Phone Mango Gets RTM

Microsoft has announced on the Windows Phone Blog that the Windows Phone development team have now released to manufacturing the latest version of WP7 called Mango. What the RTM phase means is that the code is now handed out to smartphone manufacturers so they can begin testing on new hardware and prepare their smartphones for launch on to various networks around the world.

Windows Phone 7 Mango Update ROM Leaked

The Windows Phone 7.1 Mango ROM has leaked. The leaked ROM is build number 7629 and was grabbed from the SDK emulator image. One problem with it is that it’s not possible to use it on a WP7 smartphone due to it being x86. Details of where to get the build from and what has been found within so far can be found at XDA Developers.

Nokia Could Create Windows Phone App Store

Nokia is rumoured to be creating an app store for its new smartphones launching later this year. The app store will include Windows Phone 7 apps as well as apps for other platforms that Nokia supports such as S40 and Symbian.

Windows Phone 7 Marketplace Now has 20,000 Apps

Microsoft is seeing some decent growth in the Windows Phone 7 Marketplace. Over the last few days the total number of approved apps has hit 20,000. At the time of writing this there are 20237 apps in the Marketplace and out of those, 1174 are currently inactive. We also lean from wp7applist that 48% of those are free and that the average price of an app is $1.44.
