We have had confirmation that the Nokia Lumia 800 Windows Phone Mango smartphone will not be available SIM free on November 16. From what we understand, Nokia has moved the date to January 2012.
Good news is that the device will still be available on November 16th on contract at various locations.
We are unsure why there is a delay although it could be related to demand on the device as this is Nokias first Windows Phone device and is expected to sell extremely well.
The Nokia Lumia 800 has almost the same hardware as the Nokia N9 with the only main difference being that the Lumia 800 runs the Windows Phone operating system. Technical specs for the device show that it has a 3.7 inch display that uses AMOLED technology. It has 800 x 480 pixels. It is powered by a 1.4GHz processor and on the back it has an 8 megapixel camera with an f/2.2 Carl Zeiss lens.
The device has scored well in reviews with the main let down generally being the eco system surrounding the Windows Phone platform. Now that Microsoft has a large phone manufacturer creating devices we expect Windows Phone to move on a lot from where it is right now.
As for the delays of the SIM free model, contracts are still being made available on the 16th November but if you were hoping for a SIM free version then you’ll need to wait till early next year now.
