Today, Skype went down for many users across the globe. For most people an error popped up while trying to log in. For those who can log in, it often shows no friends online.
Skype has acknowledged the downtime in a blog post over here.
The blog post explains how Skype works and what is being done to get things moving forwards. Basically, there’s some problems with what Skype call Supernodes. What the Supernodes do is act as the phone directories for Skype. A number of them have gone off line due to problems with some versions of Skype. To rectify the problem, Skype engineers are quickly creating more supernodes with the process expected to take a few hours… basically you’ll just need to wait around for everything to become stable again.
