Tomorrow, Verizon [NYSE:VZ] users will be able to use Skype Mobile over the Verizon network. Skype have announced that the Skype Mobile software will be available as of tomorrow on the said network.
What Skype Mobile will allow users to do is make and receive unlimited Skype to Skype voice calls to people around the world free of charge on the Verizon network, rather than over WiFi which was a previous restriction. As well as being able to use Skype to Skype calls over the data network, SkypeOut calls will also be able to be made lowering the cost of international calls when made through the Skype service.
Instant messages will also be able to be sent over 3G and with the service being “always on” you’ll have an update of which friends are currently online should you want to speak to them.
The application has currently been designed to work with several phones which includes…BlackBerry Storm 9530, Storm2 9550, Curve 8330, Curve 8530, 8830 World Edition and Tour 9630 smartphones, as well as DROID by Motorola, DROID ERIS by HTC and the Motorola DEVOUR.
More devices will be added to the list throughout the year.
It’s a good move forwards and will certainly shake up a few things by lowering the cost of international calls made from handsets.
