The A800 is Sonys attempt to beat the iPod video. It is a video MP3 player which uses Sonys expertise in the audio and visual arena. The device has a 2 inch screen which from the video after the jump looks very crisp and clear. The A800 can be used in landscape or portrait mode allowing you to watch movies in widescreen. The A800s battery is quite impressive. It is a lithium-ion battery which claims to allow for 30 hours of audio and 8 hours of video playback. Sound is enhanced by DSEE (Digital Sound Enhancement Engine) technology which restores frequencies lost during the compression of MP3.
3 versions of the Sony A800 will be made available. These are 2GB, 4GB and 8GB models each available in violet, black, white or pink. It does look nice but I do wonder if it has the ability to knock iPod off the top spot. I dont think so as Apple have such a huge market share for portable video players.
