After months of waiting, Sony Ericsson has announced the PlayStation Phone. The device is called the Xperia Play and as already mentioned since the beginning of the rumors, the device runs the Android operating system.
Features include a 4 inch multi-touch screen, it also has a 1GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor and an embedded Adreno GPU that allows for up to 60 frames per second when using 3D graphics.
The Android OS running on the device will be the latest 2.3 Gingerbread and this particular device is labeled as the first official PlayStation Certified device which could indicate another model will be coming soon.
As for the other specifications, the camera is 5.1 megapixels and has auto focus, a flash, geo tagging and image stabilization.
The 4 inch screen displays 480 x 854 pixels and is capacitive. It also can show 16,777,216 colors.
The Android Market is available on this device and it also uses the regular browser found on all Android smartphones. To see the full technical specs, the press release details can be found over here.
As for release dates, the Xperia Play will be launching on the Verizon network next Month (March) and will then follow on in the UK and other locations shortly after. We hear it will be on most networks within the UK, so expect prices and release dates to follow within the next few weeks.
