It appears that Sony could be following along quite a bit with the PlayStation theme mixed with Android 3.0. Not only has the Xperia Play been announced in the last week, we also hear rumors of a PlayStation Tablet arriving some time this year.
The details were detailed by Engadget and indicate that the screen will measure 9.4 inches and that the tablet will run Android 3.0 Honeycomb when it launches. We also hear that it will be “PlayStation Certified” which will turn the tablet in to a fully fledged games machine.
The 9.4 inch screen will be capacitive touch and of course, multi touch. It will have a resolution of 1280 x 800 pixels. We also are told that the line drawing above is an outline of what the tablet will look like and the wrap around part at the top will house a large battery as well as an NVIDIA processor of some sort, perhaps a Tegra 2. Putting a lot of the hardware within the larger portion at the top will allow for the screen section to be thinner.
As for a launch date, expect it to arrive in September of this year. For pricing, it is now expected that Sony will launch the WiFi only version with a price tag of $599.
As it’s very early days for the project, there is no guarantee that it will actually happen. Sony might wait to see how the Xperia Play performs in terms of sales. However, Sony is looking at getting in to the Tablet market and creating a PlayStation Certified device will certainly appeal to many gamers and business folk alike.
