Spotify opened its doors less than a month ago in the US and within that time, the company already has 1.4 million users. Out of those, 175,000 are paying subscribers.
The conversion rate works out at 12.5 percent which is slightly lower than the 15 percent reported for Europe recently. There are several reasons why users want to upgrade with one being that subscribers can stream content to their smartphone (Android or iPhone). The cost is $10/month to do this which also gives access to a number of tracks to listen to whenever you want.
We will certainly be keeping an eye on Spotify as it certainly has the ability to disrupt competitors in the US. Numbers are likely to continue growing at a steady rate although we’ll report back on exactly how the numbers change in the next few months.
