Apple [AAPL] could be working on an ultra-thin MacBook Pro from what we hear today. The information hints that to get the MacBook Pro thinner the company will remove the optical drive and make an external option available for those that want it.
At the moment, testing is believed to be in progress and actually moving towards the final testing stages. It isn’t clear if this will be a 15 inch MacBook Air or if Apple will still define it as a MacBook Pro although there are hints and suggestions that Apple could just combine both devices in the near future.
Other than what we mentioned above, we don’t know anything else about it. With it being in the final stages of testing we could see a launch early next year.
As for a missing optical drive, a number of people agree with the idea while some comments on other blogs say that a drive should be included. My personal thoughts are that I haven’t used an optical drive for a long time on a laptop, so I’d be happy to see it gone.
