Starting in late 2011, Virgin Media will switch to Samsung for supplies of the VM TiVo boxes. Up till now, Cisco were creating the PVRs for VM but a new contract has been signed. The picture below, from Pocket-Lint, shows what the new device will look like.
“This is a major win for Samsung Electronics and one that will strengthen Samsung’s position as a technology supplier. We are proud to have built upon our strategic relationship with Virgin Media that will allow both companies to continue to lead innovation and offer consumers the latest technology in the personal video recorder market,” says Warren Hampton, general manager of the Samsung’s STB – AV Division.
Samsung has provided hardware to Virgin Media before. Originally the V+ boxes were made by Scientific Atlanta but were then switched to the better Samsung models which run better and were often requested by those signing up to the VM service.
Although the picture above shows what the device will look like, the insides have not been confirmed yet. We expect the full details to be announced tomorrow.
