Word Lens Augmented Reality Translation App Launches

Quest Visual has launched a new app in to the Apple [AAPL] iTunes store called Word Lens. The Word Lens app allows you to use the camera on your iPhone and point it at Spanish words. When it detects Spanish words, it automatically switches them to English words (and vice-versa).

The system works in real-time and uses the live image from the camera to superimpose the translated text on to, as seen in the image below.

One downside of the app is that although it’s free to download, you need to use an in-app purchase of $4.99 to translate Spanish to English and another $4.99 to translate from English to Spanish. Although a demo would have been nice of the translation, we guess it stops people downloading it free to just quickly do a one off translation.

What you do get with the app is two free modes. One mode just deletes the text from the image and the other mode reverses all the text in the image so you can see how powerful the app is.

    Just learned how amazing Word Lens apps is. So cool!! It would be perfect if they have English-Chinese translation.
