Nokia has begun working on the new Windows Phone 7 smartphones and expects to launch by the end of this year.
The confirmation comes from the Nokia CEO himself, Stephen Elop, when being interviewed by Reuters.
“We’re right now, today, having people work on the first Windows Phone devices from Nokia. That work is already under way. If this was an acquisition scenario, that wouldn’t be possible,”
Bringing Windows Phone 7 to Nokia is a move which is expected to give Nokia a chance at growing again (in terms of smartphones). Since the launch of the iPhone, Nokia has had problems in the US although it sees good sales with more basic models.
Over the next few months, we expect to hear more from Nokia about the new WP7 device and what new features it will have to differentiate it a little from the other companies creating similar smartphones.
