Earlier today we mentioned that Sony Ericsson was to officially announce the Xperia Play smartphone this coming weekend at MWC. Since that announcement, O2 in the UK has now stepped up to indicate that they will be carrying the Xperia Play on its network. O2 made the announcement on its official Twitter feed this morning.
Awesome news – the Sony Ericsson Xperia Play is coming to O2. Loving their ad too:
O2 doesn’t provide any pricing details or release dates although we expect those to form part of the announcement on the 13th at MWC. Expect the device sooner rather than later though.
The ad has been embedded below and you’ll probably admit that it’s a tad weird:
As for the technical specs, these will also be revealed on the 13th although we have seen a few leaked details such as it having a 4 inch display with a resolution of 854 x 480 pixels. We also know it will run Android 2.3 Gingerbread. It will also have a camera (5 megapixels from what we understand).
Update: It is now reported that Orange, T-Mobile and Vodafone will also offer this device in the UK in April when it launches.
